Consumers left confused over travel insurance cover after volcanic ash saga Which4U UK
The recent volcanic ash fiasco caused a lot of uproar for many people in an array of circumstances.
Those that followed the news around the volcanic ash cloud would have see that it caused massive disruption to travellers after a ban was enforced across UK airspace. However, this was only the surface of the problems that were to come, as many of those affected came to realise when reading the small-print on their travel insurance policies.
A number of insurance companies refused to foot the bill for any extra expenses incurred as a result of the ash cloud that spread itself across a large area Europe, either based on the terms of their insurance policy, or the insurer's interpretation of the wording.
How to Avoid Being Declined For Health Insurance
You are filling out a health insurance application and you come to the question, "Have you ever been declined health insurance?"
You really don't want to have to answer YES to that question. So here is a suggestion for how to avoid that "yes" answer.
The best way to avoid a declination is to "Pre-qualify." It is that simple. And here is the way to do just that.
Ask your insurance broker or agent if they can provide you with a Pre-Qualifying Medical Questionnaire. My company uses them to travel insurance advantage. We ask our clients to fill out a copy - usually electronic because so many people do their insurance shopping online.
Below are some of the questions we ask.
Surgeries performed in the past ten years
Current health problems, such as diabetes, cholesterol, blood pressure
Medications taken in the last 12 months
Smoking and drinking habits
We then run your answers by the travel insurance insurance companies to see how they will handle your application. If one company says that you might or would probably be declined if you applied, you can avoid applying for insurance with that company and thus avoid being declined.
Another good reason to fill out a "Pre-qualifying Medical Questionnaire" is that it aids your insurance broker or agent in giving you appropriate advice about what plans will give you the best coverage. Most insurance brokers will have this kind of questionnaire on hand.
Of course, you never have to pre-qualify for short-term plans. They are "guarantee issue" plans that ask no medical questions. You are automatically covered once you submit your application to the insurance company.
