Child Holiday Insurance - Holiday Insurance

Column: Thanks, Mom Advocate Weekly

Mother's Day is a great holiday. It doesn't involve a list of complicated things to do or events to schedule. You only have to go to where your mother is and say thanks to the person who most likely deserves it more than anyone else.

Being a mother is a tough, tough job, especially when the job involves babies. We hear a lot today about the new dad who willingly shares family-raising chores. I have seen that a few times recently and was sincerely impressed when I did, but I think that remains the exception and not the rule.

People often don’t read the small prints on an insurance policy but going through them is very important in order to understand what your cheap holiday insurance won’t cover. Here is a list of things that travel insurance policies generally don’t cover.

Your holiday insurance will cover when your baggage goes missing only over 24 hours. But if you get it back within 24 hours you need to bear all the emergency expenses.
Cancelled or delayed trips are usually covered. But travel insurance won’t cover a trip cancellation if it is cancelled by the tour operators. Despite the warning of the FCO if you visit any war zone your insurance will certainly not cover it.

If you are pregnant while traveling, child birth or any associated complications are not covered by cheap holiday insurance. It also won’t cover death or illness of your pet. Travel insurance won’t also cover any injuries caused by mental illness or extreme sports.

So check the small prints carefully to understand what your cheap holiday insurance won’t cover.
