The Mesa homeowner who did shoot Aldaba will not be charged, police said.
The incident at a home near Stapley Drive and Southern Avenue was the third deadly home invasion encounter in the southeast Valley in the past two months.
In late April, a Gilbert dentist shot and killed an armed intruder in his home and in May one of five suspects died after his Jeep overturned during a police chase after a home invasion in southeast Gilbert.
In most home-invasion cases, police quickly learn that the homeowner and attacker know each other and are tied to a larger crime syndicate.
That wasn't the case in the Mesa home invasion last week, police said.
Once inside, the two gunmen rounded up three men, ages 20 and 21, and a 19-year-old woman into a separate room.
One of the victims managed to pull a 20-gauge shotgun inside the room and fired at least twice, killing Aldaba and wounding his partner.
It is somewhat rare for a homeowner to use deadly force against an intruder, police say.

Staining in your teeth that is intrinsic, or actually inside your tooth, is not likely to respond to whitening treatments. In these cases, porcelain veneers might be a better choice. These thin layers of porcelain are affixed to the fronts of your teeth, covering the stained teeth with a white, natural-looking surface that reflects light just like natural enamel.
In addition to helping correct deeply stained teeth, porcelain veneers are used for chipped, cracked, or pitted teeth, as well as to correct gaps and slightly misaligned teeth. Veneers are a versatile treatment, and can make dramatic changes to your smile.
